I. Introduction

Technology is important in today's world because it serves a variety of functions in many of the most important aspects of modern society, like education, communication, business and scientific progress.Technology, especially in the form of computers, is very important to the education system, both in terms of supporting educational matters as well as enhancing the learning process of the students. With computers, students can do research much more efficiently, and some have suggested that this actually leads to better student performance, especially in the science subjects.

III. ICT Today

ICTs stand for information and communication technologies and are defined, for the purposes of this primer, as a “diverse set of technological tools and resources used to communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information.” These technologies include computers, the Internet, broadcasting technologies (radio and television), and telephony.

In recent years there has been a groundswell of interest in how computers and the Internet can best be harnessed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of education at all levels and in both formal and non-formal settings.

IV. World Wide Web

A web that allows us to access a hypertext and lead to other files over the internet, web that was invented by the scientist Tim Berners Lee in 1989. The term World Wide Web (WWW) refers to the collection of public Web sites connected to the Internet worldwide, together with the client devices such as computers and cell phones that access its content. For many years it has become known simply as "the Web."


Three evolution of world wide web:
  • web 1.0 - a read only web
  • web 2.0 - a read and write web
  • web 3.0 - a semantic executing web

V. Social Media

Social media are computer-mediated tools that allow people, companies and other organizations to create, share, or exchange information, career interests, ideas, and pictures/videos in virtual communities and networks.Social media is a phrase that we throw around a lot these days, often to describe what we post on sites and apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,Snapchat and others.

VI. Research and Information Seeking

One of the ideal applications laid down for ICT and the World Wide Web is for research and education since Web 1.0, the main objectives of internet sites are to share and disseminates information. 

Five information sources over the internet:

1. Web search engine- A programs designed to search or mine the world wide web based on keywords provided by the users.

2. Research Indexing Sites- It is a web sites dedicated to compile and index researches done by academic researcher's, engineers,social scientist and so on.

3. Massive Online Open Course (MOOC)- A web sites dedicated to teach and inform users focused on different areas.

4. Employment Web Sites- It is a web sites that enable companies to post job vacancies.

5.Electronic Commerce (e-commerce)- A technology that uses electronic means to trade products and currencies.
